Delete account and data
You can fully delete your CURRENT account and all related data at any time — directly in the app or, if you no longer have app access, by email.
1. Delete in the app (recommended)
- Open CURRENT on your iPhone.
- Tap the gear icon top-right → Settings.
- Scroll down to Account.
- Tap "Delete account".
- Acknowledge the warning.
- Confirm a second time ("Delete permanently") in the second dialog.
Deletion is executed immediately and you are signed out.
2. What gets deleted
- Your email address and account master data
- All your private cards, decks, and attached images
- Your entire learning progress (mastery scores, streaks, session history)
- Your settings and preferences
- Your consent records, after the statutory retention period
- Local caches on your device (once you uninstall CURRENT)
3. What stays anonymised
Cards you actively submitted to the community and that are published there remain available — but without any link to you. Your display name is removed; the cards live anonymously in the community pool. Other users can still learn from them.
If you want to remove a specific community card before deletion, retract it in the card detail view → "Retract card".
4. What we keep briefly
- IAP receipts: up to 10 years where required by tax / commercial law.
- Consent records: 3 years after deletion (statute of limitations).
- Server logs: technically bounded, auto-deleted within a few days.
These records are no longer linked to your email or name.
5. Export data first
If you want to keep a copy of your cards and progress, export them before deletion:
- Open CURRENT → Settings → Account.
- Tap "Export data".
- You receive a JSON file with all your cards, decks, and progress — save it via the Files app, AirDrop, or email.
6. Cancel the Apple subscription separately
Important: Deleting your account does not automatically cancel a CURRENT Premium subscription. Apple requires a separate cancellation in your Apple ID settings.
- Open iOS Settings.
- Tap your name → Subscriptions.
- Select CURRENT.
- Tap "Cancel subscription".
Tip: do this before account deletion — once the account is gone you can no longer use Premium, but the subscription will keep renewing until you cancel it with Apple.
7. No more app access?
If you cannot delete your account from inside the app (lost device, uninstalled app, forgotten email), email us with subject "Account deletion" at info@currentapp.de.
For identity verification we need:
- the email address linked to your account
- ideally the approximate date of your last app use or account creation
Processing time: up to one month, usually within a few business days.
8. Frequent questions
Can I restore my account?
No. Deletion is final and irreversible. To use CURRENT again later you can sign up fresh with the same or a different email address.
What happens to my images?
Images on private cards are deleted immediately. Images on published community cards remain in a public storage bucket, but with no link to your account.
Will I get a confirmation?
After deletion completes we show a confirmation screen in the app. We only send an additional email confirmation when the request was made via email (step 7).
